An Educational Panel about the different perspectives of Life after Covid in Latinx communites, and how to address the emotional distress and anxiety behind recieving the COVID vaccines, and the stigma around Mental Health and self care.
Un Panel Educativo para discutir las diferentes perspectivas en la vida de las comunidades latinx depues del COVID y como abordar la angustia emocional y la ansiedad detrás de recibir las vacunas y el estigma en torno a la salud mental y el cuidado personal.

Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, MD, PhD is Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, University of California, Davis. He is the Founding Director of the Center for Reducing Health Disparities at UC Davis Health and the Director of the Community Engagement Program of the UCD Clinical Translational Science Center (CTSC). He was co-chair of the NIH/CTSA Community Engagement Key Function Committee and Collaboration /Engagement Domain Task Force Lead Team and co-chair of the Collaboration & Engagement Enterprise Committee’s Health Disparities Workgroup. He is a past member of the National Advisory Mental Health Council (NAMHC), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). He is Past Chair of the Board of Directors of Mental Health America (MHA; formerly the National Mental Health Association) and Past Chair of the Board of NAMI California. He is a member of the National Advisory Council of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) - Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), and board member of the California Health Care Foundation, Physicians for a Health California, Peer Health Exchange, and the Public Health Institute. He is a national and international expert on health and mental health comorbidities on diverse populations. Over the last two decades, he has held several World Health Organization (WHO) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) advisory board and consulting appointments and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of WHO’s World Mental Health Survey Consortium (WMH) and its Coordinator for Latin America overseeing population-based national surveys of Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina and a regional survey of Brazil, and two surveys of the city of Medellin, Colombia.

Rafael Vazquez works as an outreach coordinator for Santa Rosa Junior College’s Extended Opportunity Programs & Services department. This SRJC department serves economically disadvantaged students by providing counseling, funding, and other support services to help prepare them for success at SRJC. Rafael is also a part-time faculty member in the Humanities & Interdisciplinary Studies departments at SRJC. Rafael donates of his own time and money volunteering with programs addressing the needs of troubled youth in our community. He serves as a mentor to several young men with the objective of connecting them with positive alternatives. Rafael is the president of the board of directors at Humanidad Therapy & Educational Services. He previously was a board member of another non-profit since 2003, but began volunteering in 1997. Rafael worked with a program where he communicated with 286 inmates in prisons within the United States. The program provided books to inmates as funding allowed. Rafael immigrated to Santa Rosa from Oaxaca Mexico at the age of 15 to live with his brothers while he attended Santa Rosa High School. In addition to earning his associate degree, Rafael has completed five SRJC certificate programs: Law Enforcement, Corrections, Children & the Justice System, Laws of Arrest, and Juvenile Counselor. He earned his BA degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from Sonoma State University. In 2010, Rafael earned his Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Sonoma State University.

Enrique Gonzalez-Mendez developed a strong desire to help people while growing up in Mexico City. Now, as a family physician in Santa Rosa and a clinical professor at UCSF, he funnels that inclination into treating his patients and teaching other doctors how to honor the cultural needs of the underserved. For more than 30 years, Gonzalez-Mendez has been seeing low-income patients at the Vista Family Health Center in Santa Rosa and modeling cultural competency for medical students affiliated with the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency, sponsored by Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital and affiliated with UCSF."
